European Commission, Directorate-General for Energy and Transport

The section of the European Commission's website dedicated to energy and transport. Information is available on the activities of the Commission, European energy status, transportation in Europe, support programmes, and relevant publications.

Intelligent Energy Europe

“Intelligent Energy – Europe” (IEE) is the group of the European Commission charged with converting EU policy on energy efficiency and renewable energy into action on the ground. IEE supports European projects, including ECHO ACTION, one-off events, and the setting up of local and regional energy agencies.

ManagEnergy

ManagEnergy is an initiative of the European Commission Directorate-General for Energy and Transport, which aims to support the work of actors working on energy efficiency and renewable energies at the local and regional level.

European Commission Joint Research Centre – Institute for Energy

The Renewable Energy Unit of Institute for Energy of the European Commission Joint Research Centre (JRC) provides technical and scientific advise (Scientific Technical Reference System) to the Commission services (DG TREN, DG ENV) for the design,  implementation and monitoring of EU energy efficiency policies and programmes. Moreover a number of EU programmes are directly managed by JRC on behalf of DG TREN. This web site is the portal for all these activities.

Energy Management Sector Forum (joint CEN and CENELEC platform)

The Energy Management Sector Forum was created in 2006 as a joint CEN and CENELEC platform aiming at facilitating the exchange of information between the different stakeholders, coordinating and identifying the standardization needs in the field of energy management. The creation of this Sector Forum was one of the recommendations of the CEN/CENELEC Joint Working Group on Energy Management (2002 - 2005) which in its final report identified a series of standardization priorities in the field of energy management and advised to create a platform to develop a common general strategy for the improvement of energy efficiency standardization.

EMEEES – Evaluate Energy Savings

The EMEEES project addresses measuring, monitoring and evaluation issues under the new EU Directive on energy end-use efficiency and energy services (ESD). Twenty-one European organisations assisted the European Commission in developing harmonised evaluation methods. These methods can be used to evaluate the measures implemented to achieve the 9% energy savings target set out for the EU Member States in the new Directive.

Energy Efficiency Indicators in Europe

ODYSSEE is a project between ADEME, the EIE programme of the European Commission/DGTREN and energy efficiency agencies, or their representative, in the 27 countries in Europe plus Norway and Croatia. The ODYSSEE project is co-ordinated by ADEME with the technical support of Enerdata and Fraunhofer. The projects relies on a comprehensive databases that contain, on the one hand, detailed data on the energy consumption drivers by end-use and sub-sector and, on the other hand, energy efficiency and CO2 related indicators. The network of national teams updates the data regularly. The ODYSSEE database is managed by Enerdata and updated twice a year.

European Energy Service Initiative - EESI

The European Energy Service Initiative (EESI) will broadly promote the implementation of EPC, thus contributing strongly to the establishment of effective energy service markets in Europe. EESI will make use of existing standards and tools for EPC and other energy services, which were developed and have been successfully tested in earlier European projects such as ClearContract and Eurocontract.

Concerted Action for the Energy Services Directive

The Concerted Action for the Energy Services Directive (CA ESD) was launched by Intelligent Energy Europe (IEE) in May 2008 to provide a structured framework for the exchange of information between the 27 Member States and Croatia during their implementation of the Energy Services Directive (ESD). This active forum will enable each Member State to share its knowledge and experience, and draw on that of others, in order to adopt the most successful approaches towards implementing the Directive and avoid any pitfalls highlighted by others.
